New Beef Organization Named
San Antonio, Texas -- The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) is the name of the new beef organization formed as the result of the consolidation of the National Cattlemen's Association and the National Live Stock and Meat Board/Beef Industry Council. The new organization also incorporates many aspects of the Beef Board through a joint operating agreement.
Members of the new organization's transition executive committee decided on the new name during their first meeting here today. The transition executive committee, which includes members of the executive committees of both NCA and Meat Board along with representatives of the Beef Board, U.S. Meat Export Federation and American National CattleWomen, will oversee the transition to the new organization representing all segments of the industry by February 1, 1996.
In other action, directors elected California cattleman John Lacey and Arizona cattleman Jim Webb as co-chairmen of the transition executive committee. Lacey, a former NCA president and member of the Meat Board executive committee, and Webb, a former Beef Board chairman, will serve until regular elections of NCBA take place during the organization's first stakeholders' congress, slated for January 30, 1996.
