Nov. 5, 2004 - Cattle Industry Well-Positioned to Carry Out its Agenda

Jim McAdams, a Texas cattle producer and NCBA President-elect, reflecting on this week’s election, feels that NCBA’s endorsement of President Bush was important to the cattle industry due to many key policy issues.

Cut #1    :27  Outcue: "...betterment of the cattle industry."

McAdams cited President Bush’s commitment to expanding beef export markets as one key to producer profitability.

Cut #2    ::22 Outcue: "...market back open for beef."

Turning to Congress, McAdams emphasized the importance of working closely with members of both parties. He noted NCBA’s strong relationship with Democratic Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, who many predict will be the new Senate Minority Leader.

Cut #3    :30 Outcue: "...for the industry that we can be.”

While livestock interests have fared well on many recent policy issues, McAdams emphasized that much work is left to be done. The cattle industry has identified several issues as key legislative priorities for the coming year.

Cut #4    :39  Outcue: "...continuing that process."

NCBA... working to increase profit opportunities for cattle and beef producers by enhancing the business climate and building consumer demand.
