Nov. 6, 2003 - Labeling Law Rules Demonstrate Legislation’s Flaws
Suggested Lead:
More than 200 pages of USDA preliminary rules regarding country-of-origin labeling legislation show how difficult the issue has become. Eric Davis, an Idaho beef producer and president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, says the industry is one step closer to seeing what the government has in mind, and what the industry will face.
Cut #1 :40 Outcue: "...fear that we had."
Davis says that since the legislation was passed NCBA has expressed its opinions.
Cut #2 :12 Outcue: "...effective date back."
According to Davis, no one is against the concept of country-of-origin labeling, but voluntary makes sense.
Cut #3 :10 Outcue: "...enterprise is all about."
The process is far from over.
Cut #4 :12 Outcue: "...to cow-calf producers."
Country-of-Origin labeling is scheduled to take effect Sept. 30, 2004.
