Tomorrow’s election will go a long way in determining agricultural policy for years to come, says NCBA President Mike John. John said having legislators that understand the needs of farmers and ranchers is critical. He said a recent U.S. House vote to ban horse slaughter is an example of how out-of-touch Congress can sometimes be.

Cut #1 :23  Outcue: "...get out and vote."

John said the declining population of rural America makes it especially critical that farmers and ranchers stand together and present a unified rural voice. Otherwise, issues affecting agriculture and the rural economy could be neglected.

Cut #2 :20  Outcue: "...in serious trouble."
