Oct 08 02 -- Evaluation an Important Aspect of Checkoff

Suggested Lead:

Producer leaders who direct the national beef checkoff program have made evaluation a priority in their efforts.  According to Rich Otley, director of evaluation for the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, the issue is one of giving the producers information they deserve.

Cut #1    :30       Outcue: "...mean to producers."

Otley says it’s the overall checkoff effect that’s most important.

Cut #2    :17       Outcue: "...of 4.6 percent."

According to Otley, who recently gave evaluation reports to both state beef councils and the Beef Promotion Operating Committee, there are great results from combining efforts.

Cut #3    :18       Outcue: "...weren’t working together."

Otley says involvement of the Operating Committee, made up of representatives from both the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and the Federation of State Beef Councils, is critical.

Cut #4    :21       Outcue: "...into the program nationally."

After his presentations, according to Otley, representatives of state beef councils and the national Operating Committee expressed significant interest in the results of individual programs and what they mean to the success of cattle producers.
