Oct. 21, 2004 - New Operating Committee Member Enthused About Process

As one of 20 beef producers responsible for matching beef checkoff programs with available dollars, Jim Wilson has a huge responsibility.  Wilson, a beef producer from Ontario, Oregon, is new on the Beef Promotion Operating Committee, but feels the process is worthwhile.

Cut #1    :23       Outcue: "...outcome is tremendous."

Wilson says there is plenty of opportunity for any producers to be involved in the process.

Cut #2    :14       Outcue: "...gets to this point."

Necessary cuts in program funding weren’t that contentious, Wilson says.

Cut #3    :24       Outcue: "...cuts that we could."

According to Wilson, it’s a well-organized process.

Cut #4    :18       Outcue: "...way up the line."

The National Beef Checkoff is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a group of 108 beef producer volunteers from across the country.  The program was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
