Oct. 8, 2004 - Checkoff Programs Worth a Look, BPOC Member Says

Beef checkoff programs for fiscal year 2005, which began October 5, were finalized in late September, when the Beef Promotion Operating Committee met to match the programs with expected checkoff dollars.  According to committee member Dave Bateman of Oregon, Illinois, there are some exciting programs on the launching pad.

Bateman says there are other worthwhile programs that have been approved.

Cut #2     :18        Outcue: "...of exciting things."

According to Bateman, the process by which the Beef Promotion Operating Committee, which is made up of 10 members nominated by the national Beef Board and 10 members by the Federation of State Beef Councils, is a good one.

Cut #3     :25        Outcue: "...for the beef industry."

The National Beef Checkoff Program is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, a group of 108 beef producers from across the country who volunteer their time to help identify programs that can increase beef demand.  It was created in the 1985 Farm Bill, with oversight provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
