Every other year, the Five Nations Beef Conference brings together cattle industry leaders from five of the world’s top beef-producing countries: the United States, Canada, Mexico, and this year’s host countries - Australia and New Zealand. NCBA President Mike John says these nations share a common goal of building beef demand across the world.

One example is the challenge of rebuilding beef consumption in Asian markets, especially Japan.

Cut #2 :28  Outcue: "...number one priority."

He said all participants are also frustrated by high tariffs and other trade barriers that limit access to potentially large markets like the European Union.

Cut #3 :25  Outcue: "...beef-exporting countries."

But John added that the conference was not all about agreement and cooperation. He used the opportunity to voice his displeasure with Australia’s policy that continues to ban all U.S. beef imports. John says this is all about protectionism, not science or safety.

Cut #4 :22  Outcue: "...rule is in place."
