Oklahoma Mobilizes Its Hurricane Response Effort

The Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association is doing a joint direct mail piece to all of members, the members of the Oklahoma Cattlewomen and the members of the Oklahoma Junior Cattlemen for hurricane relief.   The group is corresponding with the state secretary of agriculture who has some efforts underway. People have called to donate pasture.

Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association also is coordinating with the National Cattlemen’s Foundation to raise funds to purchase much needed supplies. The group also has been coordinating with the Oklahoma Beef Council, which has committed $20,000 in resources to provide beef products through the Oklahoma Food Bank.

As the relief efforts continue, we anticipate creating work teams to go into the affected areas to help make repairs, build fences, gather and sort cattle, and anything else that needs to be done.    We also anticipate that producers in the three state area may need to locate places to house their livestock for a period of time.  Please give some consideration to those resources you can share.

Oklahoma Beef Council

The Oklahoma Beef Council Board of Directors has committed $20,000 to fund beef purchases.  By Sept. 9, 5,000 2-ounce samples of beef jerky were sent to Louisiana at a temporary food bank set up by the Oklahoma Food Bank.  The remainder of the funds will purchase cooked beef products to be used at major evacuee centers in Oklahoma.
