Peterson Leaves Tyson
Citing health concerns, Robert Peterson, one of the original founders of IBP, has resigned from the board of Tyson Foods Inc. Tyson bought IBP in 2001.
Peterson, who is 71, was one of IBP’s original cattle buyers when the company began in 1961 and moved up through the management ranks, learning procurement, sales, production and administration. He was named president and chief operating officer in July 1977, and assumed the duties of chief executive officer in March 1980 and chairman in January 1981. He remained as chairman until the merger with Tyson.
