Ag Committee Approves Hagen Nomination to Top Food Safety Post
WASHINGTON - On Wednesday, June 30, the Senate Agriculture Committee approved by voice the nomination of Dr. Elisabeth Hagen as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Food Safety. NCBA is pleased the Senate is moving forward to fill this critical position, which has been left vacant since September 2008.
Dr. Hagen is the current USDA's Chief Medical Officer, serving as an advisor to USDA's mission areas on a wide range of human health issues. Prior to her current post, she was a senior executive at USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, where she played a key role in developing and executing the agency's scientific and public health agendas.
Hagen's nomination will now head to the full Senate for a vote.
