South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed a proclamation recently declaring Sept. 19 as National Beef Cook-Off® Day. The governor met in his office with representatives from the South Dakota Cook-Off Steering Committee to show his support for the three-day national event in Rapid City Sept. 19-21.
“We are so excited to be hosting this premier event in our state,” says Nancy Stirling Neuhauser, steering committee chair. “We’re also pleased that Governor Rounds understands the event’s importance to South Dakota and the nation’s beef producers.”
The 2005 National Beef Cook-Off is funded by the Beef Checkoff Program through the Cattlemen’s Beef Board and Federation of State Beef Councils, and is administered by the American National CattleWomen. It will bring 20 of America’s top amateur cooks to Rapid City to compete for the $50,000 “Best of Beef” grand prize and eight other cash prizes, with more than $100,000 up for grabs. The national finalists, selected from thousands of entries nationwide, will prepare their beef recipes for a distinguished panel of judges, including prominent food editors.
