Thies New Director of Environmental Issues
Tamara McCann Thies, Esq., has been named NCBA’s new director of Environmental Issues. She will work in the Washington, D.C., office.
Thies brings more than 10 years of legal, legislative, regulatory, environmental and agriculture law experience to the association. She previously spent nearly seven years working on Capitol Hill for Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), focusing on top agriculture and environmental issues, including drafting and passage of the 1990 Farm Bill. Thies has worked on clean water law issues affecting producers, drafting legislation, organizing grassroots coalitions, negotiating with lawmakers and managing floor debates. She also has worked with rural development and small business policy issues on a national level.
Thies grew up on her family’s polled Hereford ranch in Culbertson, Mont. She received both a bachelor’s degree in economics and a jurist doctorate from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She also has worked for a Columbus, Ohio, law firm representing clients before the Ohio state legislature. Most recently, she worked as an independent consultant at the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
