Tues., Aug 27 02 - Beef Mark Seeks To Benefit Consumers AND Producers

Suggested Lead:

The beef industry’s Mark of Quality seeks to benefit both consumers AND beef producers, according to Huntsville, Missouri producer Mike John, a member of the Joint Brand-Like Commission. The Commission oversees the Mark of Quality, which tells consumers that a beef product delivers the quality they expect. John says for producers, the Mark creates opportunities for profit.

The beef industry’s Joint Brand-Like Commission met recently to review new beef products being considered for the Mark of Quality, and John says he was impressed with the new products.

According to John, the Commission is trying to use the Mark of Quality to establish a link from pasture to plate.

John says the consistency provided by the Mark of Quality ought to enhance beef producer profitability. This program is funded by the $1-per-head beef checkoff, which is administered by the Cattlemen’s Beef Board.
